You're Scottish, Fry Something.

So I don't know if any of you know about my slight obsession with a little english show called Dr Who. I couldn't describe the show better so I stole a synopsis from Wikipedia "The programme depicts the adventures of a mysterious, humanoid alien known as the Doctor who travels through time and space in his spacecraft, the Tardis, which normally appears from the exterior to be a blue 1950s British police box. With his companions (hot young ladies) he explores time and space, faces a variety of foes and rights wrongs." Basically a science fiction lovers Mecca and I have come to accept my science fiction nerd status with pride.

This love affair started when I was a little girl and my dad introduced me to the show on PBS. The Doctor that I grew up on was Tom Baker. I remember him with a curly afro, a red scarf, and a pocket full of Jelly Babies (kinda like gummi bears). The whole family loved the show and my sister and I even have Dr Who shirts from back in the day. I remember driving around and pretending that the big cylindrical traffic cones were Daliks (the doctors mortal enemy). We used to duck down in the car so they wouldn't see us and exterminate us :)

The show started on BBC in 1963 and so far has gone through 11 different actors playing the Doctor. Conveniently, when the doctor is "dying", he regenerates and comes back with a different face...hence the 11 different doctors. Yesterday started the beginning of a new doctor named Matt Smith and I have obsessively been waiting for this for months. We get a local paper and right on the front page, there was an article about how BBC was promoting the new series in Woolwich. So Joel and I hopped on a train and headed there to see what they had going on. As suspected, everyone there was an adult...accompanied by their young children but we still had fun. They had 3D previews of the new show, free stickers and tattoos. Then one of the coolest things ever happened, they brought out a scarecrow and a CYBERMAN!!!! And yes, other than a mom, I was the only adult to get my picture taken with them bit I don't care. IT WAS AWESOME!!!

We actually had people over for a roast dinner last night and whether they liked it or not, we all sat in silence and watched the series begin with an awesome episode. I'm really liking the new Doctor (pictured below) although no-one can replace my David Tennant. Really looking forward to this new season (especially because his companion is a red head..and we rule) Its on the Sy Fy channel in the states so please watch it if you get a chance. You will wait for the Tardis to show up in your backyard too!
